Paul Thurlow was a volunteer on the Islington's Pride LGBTQ+ archives project at the Islington Local History Centre and later became a volunteer with the Islington Local History Centre. He is a long-term resident of Islington and an active member of the LGBTQ+ community having volunteered with many organisations including Gay Switchboard. He also actively participated in many events and activities.

Photocopy of an article on one side of two A4 sheets, black on white. A photocopy of a 'special report' two-page article published in the Afro-Caribbean 'Root' magazine, focussing on the experiences of two black gay men and a black lesbian: Vernal Scott, Dolores Taylor and Dirg Aaab-Richards. The article sets out their stories sympathetically, but "These Black gays arrogantly parade their pride in homosexuality" it states towards the end. Item contains sensitive subject material including descriptions of discriminatory behaviour.
