One side of an A5 sheet, printed black on white, with hand-written notes on the back. This short leaflet was handed out to people attending the "Mutations" alternative disco on Friday16th March, at The Bell pub at 257-259 Pentonville Road, N1 - now the "Big Chill" bar/club). It gives information about the ethos of Mutations, "a gay space" for lesbians and gay men, and then about 15 months old. It was run jointly by Gay CND, Gay Icebreakers and Nightworkers (a collective of lesbians and gay men "working to establish discos and live entertainments for lesbians and gay men", who organised the music). Mutations was the successor to the Gay Icebreakers Friday night fundraising disco which started out at The Prince Albert in the mid-1970's (now Central Station, 37 Wharfdale Road, N1), then at the Hemingford Arms (Hemingford Road, N1), then at the Carved Red Lion pub (2 Essex Road, corner with St Peter's Street, N1), and briefly at the Pied Bull (now the Halifax, 1 Liverpool Road, N1). "This disco is an alternative to the gay scene not an extension of it. .... All the groups who run this disco are opposed to the sexism and racism of the gay scene and we would like to create an atmosphere at the Bell where these are not present... people wearing fascist uniforms or insignia will not be admitted..." The notes on the back set out what the organisers of Mutations had recently agreed to do to further combat racism and fascism and make clear their opposition to it.
