Paul Thurlow was a volunteer on the Islington's Pride LGBTQ+ archives project at the Islington Local History Centre and later became a volunteer with the Islington Local History Centre. He is a long-term resident of Islington and an active member of the LGBTQ+ community having volunteered with many organisations including Gay Switchboard. He also actively participated in many events and activities.

"Why vote for Labour is a vote for gay liberation" flyer produced by the Labour Campaign for Gay Rights during the 9th June 1983 UK general election campaign. Front includes a cartoon of Oscar Wilde within a red triangle: "I'm not Wilde about Victorian values!" Text makes reference to the Conservative Party's proposal to abolish the GLC (Greater London Council) and ILEA (Inner London Education Authority).
