    Paul Thurlow was a volunteer on the Islington's Pride LGBTQ+ archives project at the Islington Local History Centre and later became a volunteer with the Islington Local History Centre. He is a long-term resident of Islington and an active member of the LGBTQ+ community having volunteered with many organisations including Gay Switchboard. He also actively participated in many events and activities.

    Article about the Scout's Relationships Secretary's response to a letter to the Chief Scout from Paul Thurlow of the Gay Youth Movement (GYM), confirming that anyone 'practicing' homosexuality would be expelled from the Scouting movement. The correspondence arose from a Daily Mail article published on 11 December 1982 (article and correspondence also in the collection) about a talk to Brighton Venture Scouts by members of Brighton Gay Switchboard.
