Scope and Content
Article (and photo) about the Labour Campaign for Gay Rights (LCGR - now LGBT+ Labour) fringe meeting held on 28th September in the Clifton Hotel in Blackpool during the 1982 Labour Party Conference. Anger over recent homophobic coverage of Peter Tatchell and others resulted in journalists from some newspapers being ejected from the meeting by the Chair, John Shires. Includes summaries of speeches made by Tony Benn MP, Jo Richardson MP, Joan Lester MP, Peter Tatchell (Secretary of Bermondsey Labour Party) and Ken Livingstone (Leader of the Greater London Council). Also refers to speeches made by 'members of the Gay Youth Movement' and Andy Watson, a former member of the Royal Navy.
