Scope and ContentThis booklet, "Open and Positive - an Account of How John Warburton Came Out at School and the Consequences", produced by the Gay Teachers' Group sets out the story of John Warburton. In 1975 he was refused an extension of his contract as a secondary school teacher with the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) because of his stance as an openly gay teacher. He campaigned with the Gay Teachers' Group to be re-instated. The film "Nighthawks" (Dir Ron Peck, 1978) has been cited as a fictionalised account of John Warburton's experiences by Greg Blatchford, then a teacher at a further education college - (www.gregblatchford.com) and John Warburton was a member of the film cast.
