Scope and ContentThis pamphlet was written in 1971-1972 by members of the Gay Liberation Front Counter Psychiatry Group: Jeffrey Weeks, David Hutter, Andrew Hodges and Paul Bunting, and was published by Pomegranate Press in 1973. This is a copy of the re-print published by the Gay Liberation Front Information Service in 1978. Two of the Counter Psychiatry Group's members, Andrew Hodges and David Hutter, went on to write the pamphlet "With Downcast Gays", published in 1974. The pamphlet challenged the assumptions, prejudices and pretentions of the psychiatric profession at the time, and rejected the idea that same-sex attraction was a mental disease or disorder: it argued that it was not LGBTQ+ people who were sick, but the society that made them believe that they were sick.
