A 95-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a carer died from head injuries.
The carer, a 61-year-old woman, died in hospital on Friday morning after the incident at a home in Holloway’s Ringcross estate.
London Ambulance Service was called to Papworth Gardens at 4.15am last Thursday and took the woman to hospital, where police were then called.
The victim, who has not yet been named, was working for London Care, a company commissioned by Islington Council to provide home care services.
Police arrested the pensioner, who has since been bailed as inquiries continue.
The Met Police said: “He has been taken to hospital as a precaution due to a pre-existing condition, where he will remain pending transfer to a location where his complex health and care needs can be managed.”
Council leader Councillor Richard Watts said: “We are devastated to hear of the death of a carer in Islington.
“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this desperately sad time.”
A senior spokesperson for London Care said it was “devastated” by the staff member’s death.
“The cause of death has not yet been confirmed to us and we are assisting police while their investigations are ongoing,” they added.
“Our thoughts are with the care worker’s family and friends as they deal with this tragic news.”
