School nativities and Christmas shows have been bringing tears to parents’ eyes across the borough.

It was a TV-themed nativity for the pupils at Moreland Primary School, in Moreland Street, Clerkenwell. Their production, called Lights, Camera, Action, is a parody of the X Factor.

During a rehearsal a disco number performed by the Star of David, played by Almira, 7, proved a huge hit. Dance teacher Yvie Boakye was performing the moves at the back of the hall to ensure the children would know the steps for their performance today (Friday), with children from nursery year up to Year 3, with the lower years dressed as sheep providing the singing.

Deputy headteacher Catherine Lawrence said she was excited to see the final performance. “I just hope they are as fantastic as the Strictly Come Dancing final,” she said.

Earlier this month, pupils at St Mary’s School, in Fowler Road, performed a traditional nativity.

Year 2 pupil Betsy wore marigold gloves on her feet to bring her part as the cockerel to life. She said: “They’re nothing like my real feet!”

Deputy head Ashan Venn said: “The costumes were all made as a collaborative effort across all the school staff – they are all fantastic! All the children have done brilliantly.”
