Abstract

A health clinic in Canonbury celebrated its 70th year of helping patients with back pains and body sprains.

Taking over the management of the Great Health Clinic, on the Marquess estate, was an easy decision for Natalie Simpkin after her mother, who owned the clinic, died from cancer six years ago.

Ms Simpkin had studied Spanish and Italian at Manchester University, but wanted to keep the business within her family.

Physiotherapist Kay Lawman, Ms Simpkin’s mother, worked at the clinic, formerly in Essex Road, before buying it from the then owners.

Regular patient Adrianne Leman, 79, said she had been seeing a chiropodist at the clinic for more than five years.

She said: “After you get old it’s hard to cut your toenails on your own. Coming here your feet feel great.”
