Abstract

A blind man has been robbed of £450 after his debit card was stolen at Angel tube station.

The victim was using a cashpoint at the station when he was interrupted by a man behind him, who told him that he needed to re-enter his PIN to make the machine return his card. The victim refused to do so, but could not understand why the machine wasn’t returning his debit card.

The man persisted in trying to get the victim to enter his PIN but then left the area. The victim then realised his debit card had been stolen. Minutes later, £450 was fraudulently taken from the victim’s bank account.

Islington Council transport chief Claudia Webbe said: “This was an appalling attack on a vulnerable person. I call on anyone with information to come forward and support the police so the perpetrators can be brought to justice.”

CCTV footage shows two men standing near the victim, who carries a white cane, at around 6.20pm on October 17. The two men left the station through the north entrance.
