Abstract
A firm of architects based in Angel has won a competition for a £49m development in Finsbury.
Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects beat four other firms to win the design competition, organised by the Town Hall and the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The project will replace the 1960s Finsbury Leisure Centre with a civic complex featuring a leisure centre, enlarged energy centre, nursery, health centre, sports pitches and up to 124 homes. The judges praised the winners for coming up with the “most creative and forward-thinking ideas for the new civic building”.
East West Community Nursery, also on the site, is expected to be demolished to make way for the new development.
