PRIMARY school children at risk of being drawn into gangs will benefit from more one-to-one interventions as part of a £2m plan to tackle serious youth violence in the borough.
The Town Hall has laid out how it will spend £500,000 a year over the next four years, commissioning two specialist charities to assist it.
Islington-based charity Chance UK will be mentoring those students most at risk of school exclusion, of falling into crime or being recruited or exploited by gangs.
The St Giles Trust’s SOS Project uses specially trained ex-offenders to warn young people about gangs and offers support to those already involved.
This year, the money will also fund Safer London, which offers a similar approach for those aged 11-17.
A two-year pilot project to support those at risk of sexual exploitation and harmful sexual behaviour, often associated with gangs, has also been commissioned.
