Islington Pensioners Forum (IPF) celebrated 30 years of campaigning for the rights of older people in the borough.
Cake and drinks followed their AGM at the Town Hall last Tuesday as the IPF were joined by councillors and friends to celebrate the anniversary.
Chairman George Durack said: “We are not just pensioners, we are organised pensioners. Today there is attempt to divide us from younger generations – they say we are doing well at the expense of the young. But the division is between rich and poor, not young and old. Over the last 30 years we have campaigned on many issues, and today we are determined to unite the generations.”
The pensioners hold a monthly forum meeting at Islington Town Hall and send out a monthly newsletter highlighting issues that affect older people such as the state pension and health services. Formed in 1986, and with Jeremy Corbyn as their president, the IPF champions the rights and dignity of pensioners, locally, London-wide and nationally, with an aim to reduce isolation and loneliness.
