Abstract

The detective leading the investigation into the death of a Finsbury Park man who was stabbed to death during a night out in Camden Town has warned that his killer “will not get away with this”.

Four men have so far been arrested on suspicion of murdering 37-year-old Romeo Nkansah, who lived on the Andover estate, in the early hours of Sunday, May 29. A 23-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Thursday) and was being questioned in police custody last night. All others have been released on bail without charge.

Detectives believe father-of-two Mr Nkansah, who friends described as a “professional guy” and a “really good dad”, was killed simply for talking to a group of women while on a night out with two friends. It is thought the brief conversation led to an argument with a group of men known to the women, which resulted in Mr Nkansah suffering a single stab wound to the chest in Greenland Street. He managed just a few steps before collapsing near Camden High Street. He died in hospital less than an hour later at 4.37am.

As the investigation draws toward the end of its second week, DCI Jamie Piscopo repeated his appeal for witnesses to come forward.

“I would appeal to those people who were part of either group that Sunday morning to come forward and talk to police,” he said.

“We have identified two of the women, but there are other people that we need to speak with. It is clear that you may have vital information about the events that led up to Romeo’s murder and who is responsible.”

DCI Piscopo, who leads a murder squad of around 25 detectives, told the Tribune: “People will not get away with this. We will find who’s done it, I’m confident of that.”

He said Mr Nkansah, a Dutch national, was a “family man”, adding: “There were no dubious connections. He was just on a night out with a couple of friends and this happened.

“It’s just a tragic incident that we want to get to the bottom of.”

A 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, who were arrested on suspicion of murder last Thursday, were bailed “pending further enquiries” until July. A third man, aged 20, was arrested on the day of Mr Nkansah’s death. He has also been bailed.

A Scotland Yard said spokesman: “Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8345 3715 or via 101. Alternatively, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
