Abstract

Islington housing chief James Murray is set for a top job at City Hall as Sadiq Khan’s deputy mayor for housing.

The appointment had not been confirmed by City Hall when the Tribune went to press last night (Thursday) but it is likely Mr Khan will stick with Councillor Murray, who advised the Labour campaign on housing and stood in at debates for the new London Mayor.

Party insiders said the appointment would likely spell the end of Cllr Murray’s six-year spell as Islington Council housing and development chief.

Landing the £150,000-a-year job as deputy mayor for policy and planning would allow Cllr Murray to shape London’s planning policy.
