Abstract

A patients’ group has lodged an official complaint over a decision to stop Whittington Hospital running a GP surgery after five years.

The NHS trust has been told by NHS England that it does not even make a shortlist of six bidders for a new 10-year contract at Hanley Primary Care Centre, in Finsbury Park. Patients fear a private company takeover.

A letter from Hanley Practice said: “Whittington Health has been contract holder for the past five years and has provided a very good local service to our patients.

“They know our patient profile well, and they have provided a good level of clinical service. They are our local hospital, and patients generally trust them and use their services regularly.”

The hospital said it was baffled by the decision. NHS England maintains it is following tendering guidelines.
