A US pizza giant will not be able to open a takeaway in the Cally after a planning inspector threw out its appeal.
Islington Council rejected an application by Papa John’s to open a branch at 344 Caledonian Road as it would mean too many takeaways, restaurants and cafés in the area.
It argued that the plan was against its cumulative impact policy, and could threaten the viability of the area as a daytime shopping destination.

More than 30 residents objected to plans for a building that was occupied by an estate agency but is currently empty.
Papa John’s appealed but an inspector from the Department for Communities and Local Government backed the council stance.
Inspector Peter Eggleston said: “The concentration of uses is already detracting from the retail character of this immediate area and this addition would further consolidate such uses.”
