Planning chiefs are set to approve proposals for 46 homes on part of the former Ashmount Primary School site in Archway.
Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association hopes to build eight one-bedroom, 23 two-bedroom and 11 three-bedroom flats and four homes with four bedrooms on half of the site.
Islington Council planning committee is expected to approve the development on Tuesday.
Of the 46 new homes, 24 will be for social rent and 11 for shared ownership, with the remaining 11 flats for private sale to subsidise the affordable properties.
The other half of the site is occupied by Whitehall Park School, a free primary school run by Bellevue Place Education Trust. At present the school’s 120 children are taught in temporary cabins on the site.
Plans to demolish the derelict “modernist” Ashmount School and replace it with a new three-storey school building were approved in October last year.
The school, which opened in 2014, plans to reach a capacity of 416 pupils by 2020.
