TRANSPORT chiefs have been criticised for the “preposterous” nine-month closure of Tufnell Park tube station to replace two 40-year-old lifts. The bar manager at Aces and Eights Tim Farrell said the repair work – starting Monday – was taking almost as long as the construction of the entire Empire State Building back in the 1930s.Passengers who use the Northern line station are being told to go to Kentish Town or Archway stations.Mr Farrell said: “What we are annoyed about is that we were not consulted. We just got a letter telling us it was going to happen.“No one asked our opinion. I’ve looked into it a bit and there are lifts that come flat-packed and can be assembled on sites.“Surely this should take two or three months max. I mean, the Empire State Building was built in 13 months – it is a preposterous amount of time.”
