Abstract
A man who once cleaned streets in Islington is pursuing his passion for art with his first-ever exhibition, thanks to a legacy left by his mother. Ivan Mendez has filled a gallery space in Brecknock Road with dozens of vibrant paintings that “would not have been possible” without the support of his mother Rose, who died in 1994.
He said: “My mother always told me she wanted to see me have an exhibition of my own as she always liked my art. If she was alive now she would have supported this exhibition 300 per cent. Anything I did she supported. We had a beautiful relationship.”
