FORMER Liberal Democrat councillor and human rights lawyer Greg Foxsmith has joined the Green Party. Mr Foxsmith, who left the Lib Dems in 2013 over their support for “secret courts”, where cases are heard behind closed doors, said the Green Party “best represents the values of Liberal Democracy” and makes the most convincing case for “supporting human rights”, referencing their commitment to restoring legal aid. The former Hillrise ward councillor added: “The Green Party clearly stands for all the issues I care about and believe in: a coherent environment policy, scrapping Trident, a commitment to human rights and civil liberties, a fair voting system and a fairer society.”Natalie Bennett, the leader of the Greens, said: “Throughout the general election campaign I was hearing from more and more people about how they were rejecting the business-as-usual parties in favour of the Greens’ message of a more positive and humane approach to politics.”
