Abstract

Elizabeth and John Wilson established a horse omnibus service on Holloway Road in 1830 to carry city workers from the suburbs of North London. Known as Wilson's Favorites (in imitation of the Paris buses), they expanded to larger stables at Laycock's Farm. On Queen Victoria's birthday each year John lead a procession of omnibuses and employees in new dark green livery from the Upper Street stables in Laycock's Yard to a banquet at the Henley Arms, Hornsey Road. The company with 48 horse buses was sold in 1856.
