Abstract
In 1866 John Groom founded the 'Watercress and Flower Girls' Christian Mission' and in 1879 artificial flower making was introduced as 'an eminently satisfactory form of employment for crippled girls'. From 1875-1932 the mission was housed at Sekforde Street and a plaque on number 8 marks John Groom's house.
