Right Honorable C.W. Bowerman (1851-1947) compositor, member of the London Society of Compositors and elected its General Secretary 1892-1906, Trades Union Congress President 1901 and 1921-23 first General Secretary. Elected Alderman of London County Council for the Progressive Party 1901-07. Member of the Fabian Society, Labour MP for Deptford 1906-31. Privy Councillor 1916. Founder member of Ruskin College Executive Committee. Born in Devon, moved to Clerkenwell when young, for 56 years from 1894 lived at 4 Battledean Road where a plaque was unveiled in 1985 (or 1984?)
