Abstract
Boudica, Queen of the Celtic Iceni, lead an uprising against the occupying Roman forces in AD 60-61 under Suetonius Paulinus. According to tradition, her last stand took place on the site of Kings Cross (previously Battle Bridge) around Boxworth and Sheen Groves. She is taken from the battlefield in chains beside her weeping daughters, but takes poison.
