Abstract
George Baxter (1804-67) was a wood engraver, printer and illustrator who lived and worked at 11 (& later 12) Northampton Square 1844-60. Invented a new process of high quality oil colour printing but went bankrupt, moving first to Richmond Road and later out of London. In 1928 a plaque was erected on 11 Northampton Square which was moved to City University when the house was demolished for extensions.
