Abstract
Charles Akhurst (born 1828), foreman-gardener at Islington Cemetery, Finchley (which he assisted in laying out in 1856), saw over 100,000 funerals. Retired in 1911 after 55 years in the service of Islington Vestry, afterwards Islington Council.
Lived at 19 Leopold Road, East Finchley. Photographed in bed on his 100th birthday (November 6th 1928) reading a congratulatory letter from King George V.
