Abstract
John Charles Barnes (died 1990), Mayor of Islington 1959-60. Labour Councillor for Upper Holloway 1937-59, Alderman 1959-65, Councillor St George's 1964-68. Justice of the Peace. Lived 1937 at 10 Prospero Road and 1945 at 102 Carleton Road. Member of North Islington Labour party for over 50 years and of the Libraries committee 1937-68. John Barnes Library on Camden Road was named after him and Barnes Court, Lofting Road. Photo in chain of office and cigarette by 'Deus per Omnia' coat of arms (God in everything) in Islington Town Hall Mayor's parlour.
