Abstract
Charles Frederick Anderson set up as a timber dealer renting land on Lower Street in 1863 and the business thrived, supplying board to the film industry and Festival of Britain. Rebuilt after a massive fire in 1958 it incorporated neighbouring Collins's Music Hall but was sold by the family for redevelopment around the time of this painting (one of four) which shows the timber yard derelict but with some wood remaining and an Auction Rooms sign in the foreground
