- NotesJames Herbert Paul Neal was a member of the Islington Art Circle. Born in Islington, he was accepted at 14 by St Martin's School of Art, later studying at the Royal College of Art. After serving in the war he returned to Islington, with homes in Pleasant Place (adjacent to Astey’s Row) and St Paul’s Road. He exhibited this painting with 2 others at the Royal Academy in 1951.From 1958 he lectured at Hull College of Art.
