Abstract
Houses in Noel Road from the Regent’s Canal, near the Angel, is a homage to (and after) artist Walter Sickert’s Hanging Gardens of Islington (1924-26). During the 1920s, Sickert lived and maintained a studio at 56 Noel Street (now 54 Noel Road), Islington. The cream-coloured, castellated building in the centre of Bannerman’s oil is the back of Sickert’s former residence.
