Abstract

John Bunyan (1628-88) Puritan preacher and writer, author of Pilgrim's Progress. The tomb of Dame May Page (d.1728), widow of Whig MP Sir Gregory Page, reads 'In 67 months she was tapped 66 times, had taken away 240 gallons of water without ever repining at her case or ever fearing the operation' suggesting she suffered from Meig's Syndrome, a rare form of dropsy which entails a build up of fluid around the lungs.
