Abstract
Two views of Upper Street shops, at the top S.Tebbutt, marine stores and next to it household furniture. Bottom, Ivy Houses or Cottage at the corner of Terrett's Court (later Terrett's Place), a jeweller for 40 years. In the 18th Century, it became overgrown with ivy and was the home of coal merchant and churchwarden James Cross. Cross's wife was the first person to be baptised in the rebuilt (1754) St Mary's Parish Church. See here next to a poulterer and a butcher's shop, the cottage was demolished on 14 June 1847.
