  • Scope and Content
Aprox. A3 sheet: pages 13 & 14 from Capital Gay newspaper, with two articles on the same subject. The first article reports that following the end of the trial of Keith Hampson, MP (a trial which ended on Thursday 25th October, when the trial judge had directed the jury to find the defendant not guilty), the Attorney General had decided not to proceed to a re-trial. Keith Hampson, MP, then a PPS (Private Parliamentary Secretary: an un-paid assistant to the Secretary of State for Defence, Michael Heseltine) had been arrested on 4th June 1984 in the Gay Theatre strip club at 69 Berwick Street, Soho, where it was alleged that he had indecently assaulted Stuart Marshall, a plain-clothes policeman. On 4th June 1984 he was committed for trial at Southwark Crown Court. The second article, "Gay Theatre Drama - Court In the Act, Scene One" by the gay journalist Brian Kennedy, is a light-hearted article about his experience in the press gallery during the trial.
