Letters, papers and correspondence, 1971-1984 from the files of Mr Eric A Willats, Principal Reference Librarian, until his retirement from the post in 1984.Various papers and letters and public enquiries concerning the Sickert Family Collection of papers, art-works and ephemera held at Islington. Papers include letters referring to seven works by Sickert from the collection being stolen and offered for sale to Messrs T. Agnew & Sons London in Jan 1972. The paintings were returned to Islington. Miss Hopwood collected her 3 pictures on loan to the collection in 1973. ‘An old Shop, Vitre, France’ pastel. ‘Islington, 1917’ pastel and ‘Chloe’ oil on canvas. They were previously owned by Miss E Hickman-Smith. The bequest from Mrs M.C. Tatlock (nee Cicely Hey) of her collection of papers, letters, telegrams and memoranda in January 1980. Also letters dealing with the works bequeathed by Miss G.P.W. Stock in 1981. ‘The Garden Window’ by Thérèse Lessore. Including at letter from the owner of a late painting of Walter Sickert’s mother by W R Sickert, verified by EA Willats as genuine.
