Gaiter from World War 2 civil defence uniform .Made of heavy ochre canvas twill with the exterior painted white; it would have been worn around the ankles.It has two leather straps on the exterior and two metal buckles .the interior has two appliqued leather buffers and a strip of finer, appliqued cotton.It has been stamped with the letter 4, leather and the date 1942. This would have been used during the war .The white paint could possibly have been used to improve visability,although it looks v. new,they do look like they have been used.
