The brass plaque commemorates the official opening of the Merlin Street Baths, located at the junction of Merlin and Amwell streets, on 3 May 1933. It records the names of guests of honour, the then Finsbury borough’s mayor and several council members, and the prominent municipal bath architects. The four screw holes at each corners suggest that the plaque was mounted on site but removed from the baths during the demolition. The baths site was redeveloped.
