Metropolitan policeman's truncheon, 19th century.

Made of wood. The Royal insignia emblazoned represented an institutional permission and as well endowed the user as a defender of "Queen and Country". From 1829 were used by police officers and in 1856 they were shortened to approx. 17inch.
